Sanxingdui Culture Statue, 25.5 x 7 x 7 cms

dsc_0043.jpgdsc_0020.jpg  Both hands hold half fist shape, the design of this artifact is similar to that of the bronze artifacts unearthed. Conjectured by some sources, the hands of the artifact are supposed to hold something. By investigating the angles of the two holes in the fists, however, we can find that the angles are not in line to hold the same object unless each hand holds separate one. From the perspective of religious ceremony, the hands posture may be explained to express some specific implication. The mudra of Tibetan esoteric school employs the fingers of both hands to express particular meaning. It is logical to compare the hands posture of the artifact to the mudra of Tibetan religion.
